It’s a crazy situation and a perfect opportunity for Saturday, a former All-Pro center for the Colts who are members of the team’s Ring of Honor. I have no teaching experience beyond high school. Still, he’s now the head coach of the NFL.
“He was the best man,” Colts owner Jim Irsay said Monday. “That’s why. I mean, there’s no other mystery behind it. . . let me be clear, what was this driven by? [General Manager Chris Ballard] And I see his excellence and his readiness and who he is. If he turns us down, we won’t be here today. ”
Most recently, Saturday, October 30th wrote on twitter That the Raiders “look horrible”. Two weeks later, he’s slated to face the Raiders in Las Vegas in his Sunday debut.
“I have no preconceptions that I’m going to be something great,” he said. “I know I have to work hard. I’ve auditioned for not just one, but 31 others of him, like everyone else in this game.” And make no mistake, man: work is [to] win. I know that’s what I’m here for. ”
Saturday was doing consulting work for the Colts, and Ballard said on Monday that the team had attempted to hire him as an assistant coach on multiple occasions. In response, he said he was preparing for a career as a coach by creating a list of potential staff members in recent years.
“I’m not pretending to be the smartest person in the room,” Saturday said. “I’m here to make really smart people better. What can I give them? I’ve been in the Hall of Fame, player, coach, general manager. I’ve seen great leadership at its pinnacle, and I’ve learned a lot…but I think that’s probably my strongest quality: I’m a male leader. I don’t hesitate to do that.”
He said he will stick with Sam Ehringer at quarterback as he looks to turn around a team struggling with a 3-5-1 record.
“Defensively speaking, we’re playing pretty good football,” Ballard said. “Attackingly, we have to make hay. [stuff] Not drafting wideouts took years away from me. And all of a sudden I look up and I’m currently underperforming on the offensive line. ”
The Colts have never really recovered from the shock retirement of quarterback Andrew Luck just before the 2019 season. , relying on someone who wasn’t even a coach to make mid-season coaching changes.
“We haven’t had a quarterback in his prime retire at 29 in 27 years,” said Irsay, who has expressed strong support for Ballard as the team’s GM. “So things change. … you never want to make [coaching] It changes, but even more so during the season. It’s not ideal. But as Chris and I were talking, I could see things falling apart. And we’ve seen things go from bad to worse. Then I decided it was time and I needed to make a change.

Minority interviews not required
The Colts did not have to follow the NFL’s requirements to interview minority candidates for head coach vacancies. Indianapolis must comply with the offseason hiring a permanent head coach.
“There is no talk of persistence at this time,” Irsay said Monday. “Right now it’s an interim head coach position. And once the season is over, we’ll go through the interview process and see how it goes from there.”
Irsay defended the Colts’ record of hiring minority coaches such as Tony Dungey and Jim Caldwell.
“No problems or recognition,” he said. …we follow the Rooney rule down to the ‘T’. And I’m really looking forward to the interview process at the end of the season. ”
The Fritz Pollard Alliance, a diversity group that works closely with the NFL on minority recruitment, said in a statement Monday: But today’s news in Indianapolis highlighted a gap in the league’s stated goals. We believe that if the spirit of the rules is to expand opportunities, they must be applied consistently, even in hiring interim positions. ”

For most of this season, a rematch between the Buffalo Bills and Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship Game felt inevitable. The Bills and Chiefs have played a role in reinforcing that perception by achieving a 6-2 record.
But a threat lurks from other AFC candidates. One team that could prove to be the biggest obstacle for the Bills and Chiefs in January is the Baltimore Ravens.
The Ravens improved their record to 6-3 with a 27-13 win in New Orleans Monday night. That put them into a bye week with three straight wins.
Quarterback Lamar Jackson later said“But the season isn’t over. We’ve just had a week off. …We still have to be locked in. The season is ahead of us.”
The Ravens have a double-digit lead each game this season, and they squandered that advantage with losses to the Miami Dolphins, Bills and New York Giants. After Rashod Bateman’s season-ending foot surgery, the wide receiver has a glaring flaw. But they certainly can run the ball, recording his rushing yards of at least 150 yards in eight straight games. And with the addition of linebacker Rokan Smith to a contract with the Chicago Bears before the trade deadline, their defense has become even more formidable.
They’re back from goodbye to play the rest of the season on the easiest schedule in the league.
“We feel like we’re in a very good, comfortable position right now,” Jackson said. “We have to keep doing what we do. Stay locked in and keep cleaning up the details here and there. The sky feels like our limit.” “
Wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. may be close to making a comeback. Fox reported on Sunday Beckham is expected to be cleared this week as he recovers from a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee while playing for the Los Angeles Rams in February’s Super Bowl.
Beckham was a free agent and has been associated with the Bills, Rams, Chiefs, Giants, 49ers, Dallas Cowboys and Green Bay Packers.
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones expressed interest during a regular appearance on a Dallas-area radio station on Tuesday.
